We got tired of lying to our water apps

SipReceipt is a water reminder for iPhone that actually checks you drank. No honor system, no guilt-tapping “done” from the couch.

SipReceipt started with an embarrassing realization: we had three water reminder apps installed and were dehydrated in all of them. The reminders fired. We swiped them away. We tapped “I drank a glass” while holding an empty mug. The apps believed us every time, which is exactly why they never worked.

So we asked a different question: what if the app didn't take your word for it? When your reminder fires, SipReceipt opens the camera, runs a short countdown, and an on-device check confirms you're really there taking the sip. Suddenly a streak means something, because you cannot fake your way to it. That small bit of accountability turned out to be the whole difference.

Why a camera, and what happens to it

Using the camera is a big ask, so we treat it with care. Verification runs entirely on your device — no photo is taken and no image ever leaves your phone. There is no photo feed, nothing is posted anywhere, and we never sell your data.

You are always in control. The camera only opens when you choose to verify, and you can revoke camera access in iOS Settings at any time, and log a drink manually if you ever need to. Our Privacy Policy spells out exactly what is sent, to whom, and for how long.
